Constant supports—often called constant spring supports or constant effort supports—are specialized pipe hangers designed to apply a nearly unvarying supporting force over the full range of a pipe’s vertical movement (e.g., due to thermal expansion or contraction). Unlike variable rate spring hangers (where load changes proportionally with deflection), constant supports use mechanical linkages or multiple springs arranged to mathematically counterbalance changes in spring compression, keeping the force within a very tight band (typically ±6 %) regardless of travel.
