Importance of Centralized Lubrication System
In the intricate world of production facilities, the significance of lubrication cannot be overstated. While lubrication purchases typically constitute less than 3 percent of the maintenance budget, the repercussions of lubrication-related issues can skyrocket, accounting for over 40 percent of the total maintenance cost.
Enter the Rig Jack Up/Down installations, where the application of lubricant becomes an art form. The effectiveness lies in dispensing it in small, precise quantities at short intervals. However, when employing a manual lubrication system, the challenge is apparent. Lubricating components becomes a delicate dance dictated by machine operations, available manpower, and machine availability. The layout and precarious locations of lubrication points further exacerbate the difficulty and danger of the task. Recognizing these challenges, our expertise was sought, leading to the design and implementation of Centralized Spray Automatic Lubrication Systems for offshore rigs #1 to #9 between 2012 and 2017.
Dispelling a common misconception, it is erroneous to assume that the selection of the proper lubricant and the meticulous design and installation of the system render it invincible. This belief crumbles under scrutiny. The central lube system, despite its prowess, requires regular servicing to maintain its peak efficiency.
In essence, the importance of a centralized lubrication system goes beyond the initial investment. It serves as the backbone of machinery, ensuring a seamless dance of components. As we navigate the intricacies of production, let us recognize that sustaining efficiency requires not just the right moves but a consistent rhythm—orchestrated by the meticulous care of a centralized lubrication system.
